{"id":970563,"date":"2026-05-19T07:54:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/970563\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T07:54:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:54:17","slug":"gaten-matarazzo-to-star-in-rent-revival-in-londons-west-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/970563\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaten Matarazzo to star in RENT revival in London\u2019s West End"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A new West End production of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westendtheatre.com\/352263\/shows\/rent-tickets\/\" title=\"RENT Tickets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RENT<\/a><\/strong> is coming to London in autumn 2026, starring Gaten Matarazzo, best known as Dustin Henderson in Netflix\u2019s global phenomenon Stranger Things, making his West End debut as Mark.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Larson\u2019s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock musical <strong>RENT <\/strong>returns to London to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westendtheatre.com\/354172\/news\/rent-turns-30-5-things-to-know-about-the-musical-that-defined-a-generation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mark its 30th anniversary<\/a>, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions (Paddington) and Chris Harper Productions (Company).<\/p>\n<p>RENT is playing at the <strong>Duke of York\u2019s Theatre<\/strong> in London from 26 September 2026, booking to 13 February 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by Puccini\u2019s La Boh\u00e8me, RENT follows a group of young artists in New York\u2019s East Village navigating love, loss, creativity and the AIDS crisis, all set to one of musical theatre\u2019s most beloved scores, including Seasons of Love, One Song Glory and La Vie Boh\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by 2026 Olivier Award winner <strong>Luke Sheppard<\/strong> (&amp; Juliet, Paddington The Musical), the West End revival is based on his 2020 production at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, capturing the joy, uncertainty and resilience of a generation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-ast-global-color-4-background-color has-background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westendtheatre.com\/352263\/shows\/rent-tickets\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>More about tickets to RENT in London<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gaten Matarazzo to star in RENT<\/p>\n<p>Matarazzo takes on the role of Mark in RENT, an aspiring filmmaker and the show\u2019s central narrator, documenting the tumultuous lives of his friends and fellow artists during the AIDS crisis.<\/p>\n<p>While he may be best known for Stranger Things, Matarazzo is a far more seasoned stage performer than his screen profile might suggest.<\/p>\n<p>He made his Broadway debut aged eight in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, followed by roles in the 2013 Godspell and the 2014 Broadway revival of Les Mis\u00e9rables, in which he played Gavroche (a role he also took on the 25th Anniversary North American tour). He returned to Broadway in 2022 to play Jared Kleinman in Dear Evan Hansen.<\/p>\n<p>RENT is Matarazzo\u2019s first major London stage role, bringing him to the West End at a moment when his screen profile is at its peak after Stranger Things ran to a record-breaking final season in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>A landmark anniversary revival<\/p>\n<p>RENT last played the West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 1998, running for 18 months.
