Since I was elected\u00a0as the MP for Leeds West\u00a0in 2010, I have worked alongside the community to try and secure investment to make Armley and New Wortley a better place to live and work. \u00a0<\/p>\n

But all too often we have been held back by a lack of investment from successive Conservative governments who\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0understand the challenges facing\u00a0disadvantaged communities like this one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am delighted that Armley and New Wortley will get an extra \u00a32 million a year for the next ten years to spend on local projects as part of our Pride of Place programme. <\/p>\n

This new fund will give local communities the space to think creatively and boldly about what they want to spend the money on. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The Armley and New Wortley area is one of over\u00a0280 areas across the UK which will be part of the Plan for Neighbourhoods fund, which the government hopes will pioneer a new way of deciding how to spend public money on local projects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is a once in a generation opportunity: \u00a320 million to be spent over ten years, with local people deciding how that money is spent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The best thing about this fund is that it is up to you to decide how it should be spent.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0had some wonderful conversations with\u00a0local residents\u00a0over the past few\u00a0months about how\u00a0this money\u00a0should be\u00a0used to make the biggest impact for you, your family, and your neighbours\u00a0and there is no shortage of great ideas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thank you to the hundreds of people\u00a0who\u2019ve\u00a0already shared their views in\u00a0my\u00a0survey. There\u2019s still time to share your views with me\u00a0here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

I am really pleased that Reverend Phil Arnold has agreed to chair the Neighbourhood Board. Many of you will know Phil\u00a0as the Vicar of Christ Church Upper Armley and an active community leader\u00a0and local\u00a0resident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Phil and I\u00a0have also\u00a0now\u00a0recruited\u00a0a passionate group of\u00a0residents,\u00a0local representatives\u00a0and community and business leaders to our Neighbourhood Board which will oversee how the funds are directed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There will also be many more opportunities for people who live or work in Armley and New Wortley to\u00a0share their ideas and priorities in the months ahead.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is the best chance\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0had\u00a0to\u00a0improve Armley and New Wortley in decades.
