First and\u00a0foremost, I\u00a0want to\u00a0say that I\u00a0fully
\nagree with my\u00a0friend, President Xi Jinping: we are launching a\u00a0truly landmark
\nand\u00a0significant joint initiative\u00a0\u2013 holding Years of\u00a0Education. This marks the\u00a0tenth bilateral cross-year project undertaken by\u00a0Russia and\u00a0China\u00a0\u2013 a\u00a0tradition
\nwhereby we dedicate each initiative to\u00a0one of\u00a0the\u00a0essential pillars of\u00a0comprehensive partnership and\u00a0strategic cooperation between our nations.<\/p>\n

Both in\u00a0Russia and\u00a0in\u00a0China, there is a\u00a0deep
\nunderstanding that high-quality education is the\u00a0bedrock of\u00a0individual
\ndevelopment and\u00a0of\u00a0society as\u00a0a\u00a0whole\u00a0\u2013 of\u00a0people\u2019s ability to\u00a0realise their
\npotential and\u00a0to\u00a0advance professionally. Without it, economic progress is
\ninconceivable, and\u00a0it is impossible to\u00a0build a\u00a0truly cohesive, strong and\u00a0genuinely
\nsovereign state.<\/p>\n

Allow me to\u00a0quote a\u00a0prominent Russian educator
\nKonstantin Ushinsky. He wrote: \u201cOne of\u00a0the\u00a0primary tasks of\u00a0education is to\u00a0introduce each new generation to\u00a0humanity\u2019s shared endeavour\u00a0\u2013 its endless
\nstriving towards the\u00a0highest good.\u201d I\u00a0am confident that our Chinese friends
\nshare this outlook. That is why our two countries will continue to\u00a0jointly
\nexpand and\u00a0deepen our cooperation in\u00a0education, drawing on\u00a0the\u00a0considerable
\nexperience we have built up through mutually beneficial and\u00a0enriching
\ncollaboration.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0would like to\u00a0remind you that Russia and\u00a0China have established fifteen inter-university associations. A\u00a0joint
\nRussian-Chinese university, based at\u00a0Lomonosov Moscow State University and\u00a0the\u00a0Beijing Institute of\u00a0Technology, is operating successfully. Furthermore, Moscow
\nState University, in\u00a0partnership with Peking University, recently inaugurated
\nthe\u00a0Russian-Chinese Institute of\u00a0Fundamental Research. Our immediate plans
\ninclude the\u00a0launch of\u00a0the\u00a0Russian-Chinese Institute of\u00a0Innovative Research by\u00a0St Petersburg State University and\u00a0Tsinghua University.<\/p>\n

Naturally, we also greatly value the\u00a0traditionally strong interest shown by\u00a0our Chinese friends in\u00a0studying Russian.
\nIt is taught at\u00a0more than 200 universities and\u00a0125 schools across the\u00a0PRC. Over
\n66,000 Chinese students are currently enrolled in\u00a0language courses in\u00a0Russia.<\/p>\n

Conversely, the\u00a0number of\u00a0Russian citizens
\nstudying Chinese continues to\u00a0grow year on\u00a0year. That figure now exceeds
\n100,000, while another 20,000 Russians are mastering the\u00a0language through
\neducational programmes in\u00a0the\u00a0People\u2019s Republic of\u00a0China.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0Years of\u00a0Education, their programme
\nis very rich and\u00a0diverse. It includes hundreds of\u00a0projects in\u00a0higher, secondary vocational and\u00a0school education. Joint events will be
\norganised in\u00a0collaboration with relevant agencies, leading educational
\ninstitutions and\u00a0public organisations of\u00a0both countries, encompassing the\u00a0entire spectrum of\u00a0Russian-Chinese academic and\u00a0scientific cooperation.<\/p>\n

An\u00a0extensive series of\u00a0conferences and\u00a0seminars
\nfor\u00a0teachers, as\u00a0well as\u00a0competitions and\u00a0summer schools for\u00a0students in\u00a0Russia
\nand\u00a0China, has been scheduled.<\/p>\n

Special attention will be given to\u00a0breakthrough
\nacademic disciplines related to\u00a0the\u00a0implementation of\u00a0innovative technologies,
\nwith a\u00a0view to\u00a0establishing joint laboratories and\u00a0advanced research centres in\u00a0knowledge-intensive fields.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Years\u2019 programme naturally encompasses the\u00a0humanities and\u00a0historical sciences. I\u00a0consider it fundamentally important that
\nthe\u00a0Russian Historical Society and\u00a0the\u00a0Chinese Academy of\u00a0Social Sciences have
\ncommenced work on\u00a0a\u00a0comprehensive, large-scale study of\u00a0the\u00a0Second World War.
\nIt will be devoted to\u00a0the\u00a0decisive role of\u00a0our countries in\u00a0the\u00a0victory over
\nNazism and\u00a0Japanese militarism, and\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0inadmissibility of\u00a0distorting
\nhistorical truth.<\/p>\n

Taking this opportunity, I\u00a0would like to\u00a0address young people, all those who take part in\u00a0Russian-Chinese educational
