The Su-57D is a two-seat version of the Russian air force\u2019s existing fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57, Moscow\u2019s most advanced warplane.<\/p>\n<p>New images have been released of the Su-57D taxiing and taking off from an unnamed airfield. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/russia\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russia<\/a>\u2019s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said the flight went as planned, according to reports. Denis Manturov, Russia\u2019s First Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed flight tests of the two-seater variant had begun.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis aircraft, developed independently by our aircraft manufacturers, will, in addition to its unique combat characteristics, also possess the capabilities of a combat trainer and a command and control aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is believed the \u201ccommand and control\u201d role would likely see the jet leading uncrewed loyal wingman drones in battle.<\/p>\n<p>The Su-57, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"NATO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/nato\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NATO<\/a> reporting name \u2018Felon\u2019, is reportedly already involved in developing the concept of crewed and uncrewed aircraft working in tandem.<\/p>\n<p><a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"India\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/india\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">India<\/a> is reportedly interested in the Su-57D and Vadim Badekha, CEO of UAC, suggested there are plans to export the jet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are continuing our work on improving and expanding the capabilities of our most advanced fifth-generation aircraft complex,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident that the two-seater version of the aircraft will significantly contribute to its success in foreign markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear how much the two-seat version of Su-57 will cost.<\/p>\n<p>The original Su-57 is estimated to be worth between around \u00a326 million and \u00a337 million per jet.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has struggled to gain air superiority over <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Ukraine\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/ukraine\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukraine<\/a> despite having a huge advantage in the skies in terms of numbers and capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, UK defence intelligence revealed the Su-57 was \u201calmost certainly\u201d being used in the war but that they were being limited to flying over Russian territory.<\/p>\n<p>Intelligence chiefs said the fighter jets were being held back as Moscow was \u201chighly likely\u201d prioritising avoiding reputational damage, which could harm export prospects, and the compromise of sensitive technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Russia has hailed the capabilities of its latest fighter jet which has taken to the skies for the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":973399,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[5],"tags":[11501,12,332,7661,271369,271370,657,333,26],"class_list":["post-973398","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-world","tag-aircraft","tag-news","tag-russia","tag-russia-ukraine-war","tag-su-57","tag-su-57d","tag-ukraine","tag-vladimir-putin","tag-world"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/116607308868508403","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/973398","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=973398"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/973398\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/973399"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=973398"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=973398"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=973398"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
