Ultimately, the Temple Quarter area &#8211; which stretches from Redcliffe to Netham Lock and covers all of Temple Meads, St Philips and The Dings &#8211; will see thousands of new homes, a new university campus, hotel and conference centre, new school and purpose-built student accommodation for thousands of students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">All those buildings are now expected to be connected to the District Heat Network, which creates hot water and heating piped around an area <a aria-label=\"using latent heat generated from the watersLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/how-bristols-new-district-heat-9328068\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">using latent heat generated from the waters<\/a> of the Floating Harbour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Temple Quarter part of the heat network will bring together the existing networks already at Temple, Old Market and Redcliffe, into one integrated system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The money will go to the City Leap &#8211; a partnership between <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Bristol City Council<\/a> and US corporation Ameresco, along with Swedish energy firm Vattenfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis is a major step forward in the development of longer-term plans to serve low carbon heat as widely as possible in Bristol,\u201d said a spokesperson for Vattenfall, which runs the heat network in Bristol.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0_malago.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"The trench dug along the side of Malago Road for the District Heat Network pipes reveal the complex web of cables, mains and sewers that cross and run along the A38 in Bedminster\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">The trench dug along the side of Malago Road for the District Heat Network pipes reveal the complex web of cables, mains and sewers that cross and run along the A38 in Bedminster(Image: Bristol City Council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThere are currently 35 buildings connected to the Bristol heat network, supplying enough heat for the equivalent of almost 13,500 homes. Further growth is already underway, with up to four new connections planned within the next year\u201cThe project also includes the development of a semi-permanent energy centre, an air source heat pump system designed as a flexible, \u2018plug\u2011in\u2019 solution.
