A legal order has been put in place to try prevent more yobs from breaking into Nottingham city centre’s<\/a> vacant former Debenhams building<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Long Row department store closed in 2021 and has become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour<\/a> while plans are drawn up for its future<\/a>, with youths and urban explorers breaking in and causing trouble in the city centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now Nottingham City Council<\/a> and Nottinghamshire Police<\/a> have secured a closure order that means that anyone entering the empty property will be committing serious offence and likely face prosecution and a significant fine.<\/p>\n Chief Inspector Kylie Davies of Nottinghamshire Police<\/a> said: \u201cWe are consistently called to the Debenhams site due to children and young people entering the site, climbing to the roof and putting themselves and the public at risk.<\/p>\n \u201cThis further closure order means that we have greater powers to deal with those who attempt to enter the premises, and we will not hesitate to use its full power.\u201d<\/p>\n Closure orders are one of the tools available to local authorities and police<\/a> under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.<\/p>\n They are used in cases where there is serious nuisance, disorder or criminal behaviour linked to a property or premises and where action is needed to protect communities.<\/p>\n The city council<\/a> and police have also secured a closure order for 31 Manston Mews in Radford<\/a>, which had been subject to reports of serious anti-social behaviour, nuisance and disorder linked to drug use and prostitution.<\/p>\n Councillor Matt Shannon, executive member for community protection at Nottingham City Council, said: \u201cPeople deserve to feel safe in their communities and free from the fear and distress that persistent anti-social behaviour can cause.<\/p>\n “We will not hesitate to take strong action where it is needed to protect the local community.<\/p>\n \u201cThese closure orders demonstrate the serious action Nottingham City Council and our partners are taking to tackle persistent nuisance, disorder and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n “Closure orders are not used lightly, but we will use every available power to protect Nottingham.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"People have also been banned from another building Pictured is the disused Debenhams building in Long Row, Nottingham…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":974687,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[3,4],"tags":[188,271580,12,183009,183011,131716,16,15],"class_list":["post-974686","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-uk","category-united-kingdom","tag-crime","tag-debenhams-building","tag-news","tag-nottingham-city-council","tag-nottinghamshire-police","tag-radford","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/116610534185698621","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/974686","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=974686"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/974686\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/974687"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=974686"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=974686"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=974686"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
