(Supplied: The Nippon Foundation-Nekton Ocean Census\/Gustav Paulay)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We spend billions searching for life on Mars or going to the dark side of the moon,&#8221; said Ocean Census director Oliver Steeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Discovering the majority of life on our own planet \u2014 in our own ocean \u2014 costs a fraction of that.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;The question is not whether we can afford to do this.
