Olaf, a Scottish Maine Coone cat, has been awarded the title of Britain\u2019s most active cat, travelling approximately 33km a month.<\/p>\n

The \u201cmost active cat\u201d has been recorded completing almost a marathon a month as runners prepare for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this Sunday.<\/p>\n

The data has been published by GPS collar brand, Kippy, which has revealed the activity of British cats through monitoring data, with the country\u2019s most athletic cats are travelling more than 165km in one month.<\/p>\n

Kippy\u2019s data shows that across the UK, outdoor cats are collectively travelling 1.3 million kilometres\u00a0every single day, the same distance as circling the earth 32 times or travelling to the moon and back nearly twice over.<\/p>\n

Based on Kippy\u2019s proprietary database of over 1,700 British cats, the average outdoor cat travels 1.5km a day.<\/p>\n

Edinburgh runners are set to take part in the city\u2019s annual marathon<\/a> as well as other races on Sunday. <\/p>\n

Fife-based Olaf is a local \u201ctop mover\u201d, as his owner, Alan, said he was \u201csurprised\u201d to find out Olaf was one of Britain\u2019s most travelled cats.<\/p>\n

Alan said: \u201cWe live in a heavily forested area, Olaf tends to stay closer to home in the morning, but further afield in the afternoon and evening. He comes home to eat, and have a treat, at least four times a day. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that he spends time with the rabbits and red squirrels that abound here. We call him in at around 7pm, and he always responds to our call.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese findings have been revealed as Kippy is on a mission to offer peace of mind for the owners of wandering cats, particularly as work commitments are seeing more people returning to the office and leaving their cats to their own devices.<\/p>\n

Iacopo Buccarelli, brand reputation manager at Kippy said: \u201cIt\u2019s fascinating to see what our cats get up to. They\u2019re out living their lives whilst we\u2019re living ours.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love hearing stories from our community about the distances our feline friends are travelling, but more importantly, we pride ourselves on being able to provide reassurance to pet owners who can track their pets\u2019 whereabouts when they\u2019re not at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only natural that as more of us return to the office, we can feel anxious about leaving our pets, especially those that were adopted during lockdown. Real-time tracking can help curb some of that worry, knowing what adventures they\u2019re enjoying whilst we\u2019re not around and of course, when they arrive home safely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kippy\u2019s data has also revealed\u00a0when\u00a0Britain\u2019s cats are most active. With longer summer evenings on the horizon, domesticated cats are most energetic in the evening \u2013 with average steps peaking at 7pm. <\/p>\n

This generally begins to decline into the nighttime, with the next rise in steps seen from around 4am, peaking at 8am. Lunchtime is where activity starts to dip. <\/p>\n
