Despite rushing to A&E, she said she was told her observations \u2014 which include signs like heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen levels \u2014 were ‘all ok’ and she was discharged.<\/p>\n
It was only when she suffered a ‘massive blood clot’ a week later that she attended hospital again and was referred for further testing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Here, she claimed surgeons told her that her symptoms were likely caused by Mounjaro.<\/p>\n

In a bid to shed a few pounds and combat her type 2 diabetes diagnosis, Karen Coe from Hailsham in East Sussex, was prescribed Mounjaro on the NHS<\/p>\n

Administered weekly, it is designed to help type 2\u00a0diabetes<\/a> patients control their blood sugar levels or for obese people to lose weight<\/a>\u00a0for health purposes.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, the injections are known to cause worrying side effects such as pancreatitis \u2014 when the pancreas suddenly becomes inflamed \u2014 or gastrointestinal issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n Recalling her ordeal, Ms Coe \u2014\u00a0an activities co-ordinator \u2014 said after injecting her first dose: ‘At first I had a headache and got dizzy. I had a few stomach cramps.<\/p>\n ‘On Monday [March 17] it was excruciating. It was like being ripped open with a knife.’<\/p>\n ‘I nearly passed out. I had to ask my husband to call for an ambulance.<\/p>\n ‘I was dizzy and really cold. But they [the doctors] then did my observations and said it was all ok.’<\/p>\n Ms Coe said she\u00a0had previously tried metformin to treat her diabetes but had struggled with diarrhoea.<\/p>\n After hearing success stories from friends about Mounjaro she spoke to her diabetic nurse and was prescribed the jabs.\u00a0<\/p>\n Yet, immediately after taking her first injection on March 14, the 59-year-old claimed she began suffering dizziness and headaches<\/p>\n Just three days later Ms Coe, who is a size 20, woke suddenly at 5am with ‘excruciating’ stomach pain and diarrhoea<\/p>\n She said she was made aware of common side effects including nausea, diarrhoea and stomach discomfort, but didn’t know she would have such an extreme reaction.<\/p>\n After attending hospital initially, she also claimed she was told to keep an eye on her symptoms.\u00a0<\/p>\n But after experiencing the blood clot, she was\u00a0then referred on an urgent two week pathway to see a colorectal surgeon.<\/p>\n ‘Every few minutes I would go to the loo and pass blood,’ she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Her symptoms have now begun to subside but she has been left weak and unable to eat, she added and won’t be continuing to injections.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘It can cause severe reactions and severe side effects,’ Ms Coe said.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘People should really think carefully and don’t take it lightly.’<\/p>\n It comes as a a Mail on Sunday investigation in January revealed<\/a>\u00a0almost 400 Brits had been hospitalised \u2014 some with life-threatening complications \u2014 since the rollout of jabs such as Wegovy, Mounjaro and Saxenda.<\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n Most of the reactions were gastrointestinal issues such as persistent nausea and diarrhoea, which leave some patients with \u2018severe dehydration’.<\/p>\n But some doctors warned they were seeing patients with \u2018serious, life-threatening complications\u2019 including seizures, bowel obstruction and inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis.\u00a0<\/p>\n US pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly, who manufactures Mounjaro, said: ‘Patient safety is Lilly’s top priority.
