Finally willing to (half) answer some <a href=\"https:\/\/order-order.com\/2026\/05\/21\/bad-tempered-burnham-loses-cool-in-clash-with-daily-mails-christian-calgie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">questions<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>On Brexit, he attempted to push back on the \u201cskewed coverage\u201d of his position, and insisted it wouldn\u2019t be a priority for the next \u201cfive or ten years\u201c. Damage control\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve not said that we should now focus on rejoining and I\u2019m not saying that. We had a vote and we shouldn\u2019t keep rerunning the arguments linked to that vote. We\u2019ve got to focus relentlessly domestically. Let\u2019s get this country functioning again\u2026 Let\u2019s not worry then about our relationship with other places until we fix our own situation\u2026 I\u2019m on the record as saying in my lifetime I would like to see us rejoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe country has to fix itself\u2026 and that has got to be our relentless priority in the next 5 or 10 years that\u2019s where we\u2019ve got to focus, that\u2019s what we\u2019ve got to get right before we focus on our relationships with other places.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He also gave a wishy-washy answer on Net Zero:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying I\u2019ve completely made a view on the North Sea issue. I\u2019m listening to what people are saying about that\u2026 [It\u2019s] not in our interest to talk about time-limited industries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On whether he\u2019d continue as mayor if he loses the by-election, he simply said \u201cwe\u2019ll cross that bridge when we come to it\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Andy Burnham has just sat down for an interview with BBC Radio Manchester.
