{"id":97797,"date":"2025-05-13T10:29:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T10:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/97797\/"},"modified":"2025-05-13T10:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T10:29:10","slug":"edinburgh-innovations-appoints-new-director-of-venture-creation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/97797\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Innovations appoints new director of venture creation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/edinburgh-innovations.ed.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh Innovations<\/a> has announced the appointment of Lizzie Withington in the newly created role of director of venture creation.<\/p>\n<p>The role, within the University of Edinburgh\u2019s commercialisation service, includes building new spin-out companies around emerging technologies and growing and maintaining a network of investors and experienced CEOs to ensure spinouts have effective management and funds to launch, succeed, and scale.<\/p>\n<p>In November, Edinburgh Innovations (EI) announced record research translation figures for the financial year 2023\/24, including the launch of 127 companies, five of which were spinouts (staff companies where the University retains intellectual property rights); 140 patents filed and \u00a3141 million invested into University-associated companies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitexpowest.com\/speakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"DIGIT Expo West 2025 | Who&#039;s Speaking?\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1747132150_452_GEXPO25-Ads-1.jpg\" alt=\"DIGIT Expo West 2025 | Who's Speaking?\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Withington will join EI in July from Newcastle University, where she is currently company creation manager. During her time at Newcastle, she has spearheaded the development of a portfolio of 42 spin-out companies, generating income of \u00a340m per year.<\/p>\n<p>She also lectures in Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation and has founded several successful tech companies.<\/p>\n<p>Withington said: \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be joining Edinburgh Innovations as Director of Venture Creation at such a pivotal time.
