North Koreans were fighting against us in the Kursk region, while the Chinese were fighting against us in Ukraine,\u201d Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday. \u201cUkraine is a strong country, but we can\u2019t fight against multiple countries alone.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy\u2019s assertion that many more Chinese citizens are fighting for Russia in Ukraine prompted criticism from Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch claim has no basis in facts,\u201d Lin Jian, spokesperson for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.cn\/eng\/xw\/fyrbt\/202504\/t20250409_11590839.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.cn\/eng\/xw\/fyrbt\/202504\/t20250409_11590839.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China\u2019s foreign ministry<\/a>, said at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmprc.gov.cn\/eng\/xw\/fyrbt\/lxjzh\/202504\/t20250409_11590839.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a briefing<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina\u2019s position on the issue of the Ukraine crisis is very clear and is widely recognized by the international community,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Ukrainian side needs to view <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.cn\/eng\/xw\/fyrbt\/202504\/t20250409_11590839.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.cn\/eng\/xw\/fyrbt\/202504\/t20250409_11590839.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China\u2019s effort and constructive role<\/a> for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course it does not mean the Chinese army is involved,\u201d EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said. \u201cWhat is clear is that China is a key enabler of Russia\u2019s war. Without Chinese support Russia would not be able to wage war in the amount that they are waging this war.
