\n\tAfter years of speculation, Idris Elba<\/a> has revealed that he was never in contention to play James Bond<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Golden Globe winner admitted he was \u201chonestly not in the race ever\u201d as he responded to the longstanding casting rumors, now that the search is officially underway<\/a> for the next 007<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy name\u2019s not getting thrown out, no way,\u201d he told People<\/a>. \u201cThey\u2019re going younger. And I wish them all the luck of the world. I can\u2019t wait \u2014 it\u2019s going to be amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tElba added, \u201cI\u2019m honestly not in the race ever. I wasn\u2019t in the race in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor\u2019s comments come after Amazon MGM Studios announced<\/a>, \u201cThe search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don\u2019t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we\u2019re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline has confirmed that Gold is working with director Denis Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman on the search for who will next play the MI6 spy.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt Cannes, Gold told Deadline\u2019s Baz Bamigboye that whoever they cast must \u201cooze sex appeal<\/a>,\u201d with the actor expected to take on the Ian Fleming-created role for at least three films.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast June, Amazon MGM Studios officially tapped Villeneuve to direct the next installment<\/a>, with Steven Knight announced to write the film<\/a> amid the studio\u2019s new 007 partnership with returning producers Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Tanya Lapointe will executive produce.<\/p>\n
