A university law student is facing a lengthy jail sentence after she was caught attempting to smuggle \u00a3150,000 of drugs<\/a> through Edinburgh Airport.<\/p>\n Sage-Ahliea Gold was found to be carrying more than 16 kilos of herbal cannabis<\/a> in a suitcase when she arrived at the capital’s airport in August last year.<\/p>\n Gold, who is currently studying law at the University of Greenwich, was said to have broken down in tears when she was confronted by border force officials<\/a> following a search of her luggage.<\/p>\n The 25-year-old, from East Dulwich, London, was arrested<\/a> and charged and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court where she pleaded guilty to the offence today.<\/p>\n Fiscal depute Jennifer McLaren told the court Gold<\/a> arrived at the Scottish capital after flying in from John F Kennedy International Airport in New York on August 11 last year.<\/p>\n Ms McLaren said all the luggage from the flight was being screened and a suitcase was identified with “a number of packages<\/a> within”.<\/p>\n Gold was subsequently seen “uplifting the case and attending at the nothing to declare exit” where she was pulled aside by security officials<\/a>.<\/p>\n The court was told: “Ms Gold was then stopped and she answered some standard questions<\/a> and said she had travelled from New York and had packed her bag.<\/p>\n “She unlocked the case and officers observed a number of personal possessions and vacuum packed packages that appeared to contain herbal<\/a> material.<\/p>\n “Ms Gold at this point was cautioned<\/a> and told she did not need to provide information other than her name, date of birth and nationality.<\/p>\n “She didn’t respond and put her hand to her face and began to cry<\/a>.”<\/p>\n The prosecutor said there were 30 vacuum sealed packages found in the suitcase containing a total of 16.14 kilograms of cannabis<\/a> with a value of \u00a361,332.<\/p>\n The court was told if the drugs<\/a> were spit into “half kilo deals” the value would be \u00a375,000 and when split into one gram bags the value was \u00a3150,000.<\/p>\n Solicitor Charles Morrison, defending, said he would reserve his mitigation to the sentence<\/a> hearing.<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click here if you’re on mobile<\/strong><\/a>, select ‘Join Community’ and you’re in!<\/p>\n If you’re on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click ‘Join Community’.<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
