{"id":98422,"date":"2025-05-13T15:50:27","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T15:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/98422\/"},"modified":"2025-05-13T15:50:27","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T15:50:27","slug":"will-genia-issues-come-and-get-me-plea-ahead-of-bi-lions-tour-planet-rugby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/98422\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Genia issues come and get me plea ahead of B&#038;I Lions tour : Planet Rugby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Former Wallabies scrum-half Will Genia is keen to have another crack at the British and Irish Lions after the heartbreak of losing the 2013 series.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The 37-year-old hung up his Test boots at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, and while he is eager to have another shot at the Lions, he is not targeting a Wallabies recall.<\/p>\n<p>Will Genia issues \u2018come and get me\u2019 plea<\/p>\n<p>He has instead issued a \u2018come and get me\u2019 plea to former All Blacks boss Ian Foster, who will coach the Invitational Australia &amp; New Zealand team as well as the First Nations &amp; Pasifika XV.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/will-genia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genia<\/a>, who played 110 Test matches for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wallabies<\/a>, is currently preparing for a relegation-promotion tie with Japanese club Hanazono Kintetsu Liners, who will face Division One outfit the Honda Heat in back-to-back matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Liners have confirmed that Genia and long-time teammate Quade Cooper will be leaving the club at the end of the season, and while the latter is set to hang up his boots, the former isn\u2019t ready just yet.<\/p>\n<p>After starting all three Test matches for the Wallabies back in 2013 against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/category\/british-and-irish-lions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">British &amp; Irish Lions<\/a>, which Australia lost 2-1, Genia is ready to have another go at beating the famous touring team.<\/p>\n<p>Former England scrum-half Ben Youngs put the question to the Australian on the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jkKJkrF_8N8\" target=\"_blank\">For the Love of Rugby<\/a> podcast, and his answer was emphatic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAye mate, I\u2019d love to put my hand up for both teams, the ANZAC XV and the Pacific Island team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI qualify for both so I\u2019m just waiting for someone to hit me up.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-1 text-sm font-semibold leading-snug text-title line-clamp-3 sm:mb-0 sm:text-[15px] sm:leading-5 sm:line-clamp-2\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/news\/british-and-irish-lions-will-genia-likens-easily-the-best-halfback-in-the-world-jamison-gibson-park-to-springboks-great\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Will Genia: \u2018Jamison Gibson-Park is easily the best halfback in the world\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"px-3 xs:px-4 mt-3 mb-2 font-semibold leading-snug text-lg text-title\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/news\/all-blacks-great-backs-usa-super-rugby-team-idea-which-could-entice-south-african-return\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All Blacks great backs USA Super Rugby team idea which could \u2018entice\u2019 South African return<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Foster targets All Blacks<\/p>\n<p>Ex-All Blacks head coach Foster has already begun piecing his team together, publicly confirming that scrum-half Aaron Smith is one of the players he hopes to include in his team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at the New Zealand-based players in Japan, you\u2019ve got the likes of Aaron Smith and Richie Mo\u2019unga,\u201d said Foster back in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose types of guys would be really, really good targets for this sort of game and hopefully we can work through things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foster has also targeted another ex-All Black scrum-half in TJ Perenara, who has yet to give his response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve played a lot of rugby since I tore my Achilles in 2022,\u201d Perenara told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI owe it to my family to spend time with them. I\u2019d love to play in that game. It would be an honour.
