NBC boss Jeff Bader has explained the reason behind Suits LA<\/a>‘s cancellation on the network.
<\/p>\n

The Suits spin-off was ordered after its parent show achieved massive success when it was made available on Netflix<\/a> in 2023, where it set and broke multiple streaming records<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the show failed to live up to its predecessor, receiving largely negative reviews<\/a> \u2013 AV Club<\/a> called it a “disaster” \u2013 and underwhelming ratings following its release earlier this year. <\/p>\n

Following last week’s announcement that Suits LA has been cancelled after one season<\/a>, Bader, the president of program planning strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment has revealed that the decision was made because it “wasn’t showing the potential to grow” in the future.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s so hard to talk about shows and which ones you bring back, and Suits had a very short run, but it really just has not resonated the way we thought it would,” he said (via Variety<\/a>).<\/p>\n

“There can be many, many reasons why, people are speculating why it hasn\u2019t resonated, but it\u2019s just not really showing the potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately.<\/p>\n

“And it\u2019s those decisions we had to make. We had to look at the performance of the shows, both on linear and on digital. We had to see the ones that looked like they had growth potential in the future. <\/p>\n

“So we\u2019re looking at how stable they are on their linear performance, how stable they are on digital, which ones are growing and which ones are declining. And we had to make some hard decisions.”<\/p>\n

Suits LA focuses on a new set of lawyers, with Stephen Amell playing entertainment lawyer Ted Black, who moves from New York to LA to build his own law firm with old friend Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt).<\/p>\n

However, Ted soon finds himself at “a crisis point” as he’s forced to “embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career”.<\/p>\n
