Ruth Wilson<\/a>‘s “absorbing” British drama True Things has found a new streaming home in the UK. <\/p>\n

Adapted from Deborah Kay Davies’ novel True Things About Me, the 2021 movie has now been added to the BBC’s streaming service BBC iPlayer<\/a>, where it can be viewed for free.<\/p>\n

Starring Wilson alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga<\/a> star Tom Burke<\/a>, True Things follows Wilson as an office worker named Kate who becomes romantically involved with a mysterious male benefits claimant, played by Burke. <\/p>\n

The synopsis reads: “Kate Perkin, a single woman in her early thirties, works in a benefits office in the English coastal town of Ramsgate. A moment of flirtation with a male claimant initially seems like a mere blip in her routine.<\/p>\n

“But when the man shows up to meet her at the end of her working day, Kate finds herself propelled headlong into a liaison that displaces every other priority in her life.”<\/p>\n

Written and directed by Harry Wootliff, True Things stars Hayley Squires, Elizabeth Rider, Frank McCusker, and Ann Firbank alongside Wilson and Burke. <\/p>\n

In a review of the movie, Deadline<\/a> called it “an absorbing, character-driven film that explores female sensuality and longing in all its complexity \u2014 and whatever your gender or preferences, its vexing central relationship may well ring a bell.”<\/p>\n

The film has an impressive score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> from 68 reviews, with critics praising the lead actors’ performances and its director Wootliff. <\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a>‘s Mark Kermode said: “Wilson (who optioned and developed the source book) engages the audience on a visceral level, her deceptively low-key performance taking us deep inside her character\u2019s dreams, desires and insecurities.”<\/p>\n

“Wootliff and Wilson create a central character who is irrational, sometimes infuriating, but always intensely sympathetic,” said The Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Wrap<\/a> described the film as “a raw and passionate look at the type of love that can be both all-encompassing and destructive, passionate and dangerous.”<\/p>\n

True Things is available to stream for free right now on BBC iPlayer in the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n
