{"id":985503,"date":"2026-05-26T08:40:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T08:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/985503\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T08:40:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T08:40:22","slug":"eurotpc-project-reinforces-europes-role-in-ai-for-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/985503\/","title":{"rendered":"EuroTPC project reinforces Europe\u2019s role in AI for science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurohpc-ju.europa.eu\/research-innovation\/our-projects\/euro-trillion-parameter-consortium-euro-tpc_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">EuroTPC project<\/a> has officially launched with backing from the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, aiming to strengthen Europe\u2019s influence within the global <a href=\"https:\/\/tpc.dev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Trillion Parameter Consortium<\/a> (TPC), an international initiative focused on advancing open AI for science.<\/p>\n<p>The three-year programme began on 1 May 2026 and brings together leading European supercomputing and research organisations to coordinate Europe\u2019s contribution to next-generation AI models.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the EuroTPC project includes partners from Finland, Italy, France and Germany, including CSC \u2013 IT Center for Science, CINECA, Neovia Innovation and BADW-LRZ.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative has secured nearly \u20ac1.5m in Horizon Europe funding following selection under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurohpc-ju.europa.eu\/new-call-strengthen-eurohpc-international-cooperation-artificial-intelligence-2025-03-04_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2025-INCO-01 call<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s central objective is to ensure European priorities and standards are represented in the future development of extreme-scale AI systems.<\/p>\n<p>Through closer collaboration between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/hartree-centres-high-performance-computing\/69783\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">high-performance computing centres<\/a>, AI researchers and industry, the EuroTPC project is expected to accelerate scientific discovery while reinforcing Europe\u2019s digital sovereignty and competitiveness in advanced computing.<\/p>\n<p>Europe expands its position in global AI research<\/p>\n<p>The TPC was launched in 2023 to support open and collaborative development of massive AI models designed for scientific applications.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike commercial large language models developed behind closed doors, the consortium focuses on transparent research, shared infrastructure and international cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The EuroTPC project will act as Europe\u2019s coordination layer within that global effort.
