Even though you’re not playing, you’re learning and will be a way better player.\u201d\"KP\"Cook later doubled down on his stance, saying that eventually players need games, not just exposure to elite environments.\u201cThere\u2019s got to be a stage where you have to play,\u201d Cook said. \u201cNo one publicly is ever going to say the IPL\u2019s not the place to be because everyone knows it lines everyone\u2019s pockets.\u201dGillespie unloads on PietersenNow Gillespie has entered the debate \u2014 and he did not hold back.Speaking on The Fast Bowling Cartel podcast alongside fellow Australian greats Glenn McGrath and Damien Fleming, Gillespie mocked Pietersen\u2019s criticism of Cook and sarcastically blasted the former England batter\u2019s claims.\u201cThe nerve of Sir Alastair Cook to suggest something like that,\u201d Gillespie said sarcastically. \u201cKP has gone off the deep end and stated that Sir Alastair Cook\u2019s opinion doesn\u2019t matter because he\u2019s never been to the IPL and would not know.\u201dGillespie insisted Cook had made a perfectly reasonable point, especially considering Bethell was not getting game time.\u201cI think Sir Alastair Cook had a valid point, but the way KP absolutely hammered him for having an opinion \u2014 give me a spell, boys. Absolute nonsense,\u201d Gillespie added.The former Australia fast bowler then turned even more scathing while mocking Pietersen\u2019s claims that he helped pave the way for players to prioritise franchise cricket.\u201cHe reckons he would have played 150 Tests or more.
