The Dutchman finished <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/cycling\/outstanding-jonas-vingegaard-a-cat-and-mouse-chase-and-an-off-day-for-giulio-pellizzari-on-a-mountain-stage-of-the-giro-ditalia\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">with the best climbers in the race<\/a> and is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/cycling\/giro-ditalia-2026-standings-big-changes-on-the-gc-podium-after-mountain-finish\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">third overall<\/a>, which would be good enough for a final podium place in Rome on Sunday.On the final climb to Car\u00ec, Arensman and his team-mate chose to ride at their own pace when Jonas Vingegaard <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cyclingontnt\/status\/2059285615238144106?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">attacked 6.5 kilometres from the finish<\/a>. Bernal then sacrificed himself, but also did himself a favour by moving up to tenth overall.<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oCH-gxlsgYQ\"><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.domestiquecycling.com\/en\/news\/arensman-keeps-giro-podium-dream-alive-after-brutal-stage-14-i-did-my-absolute-best\/\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know it is very hard to follow Jonas, so we chose to keep our own pace,&#8221; said the 2019 Tour winner afterwards to Eurosport. &#8220;We knew what we had to do on the final climb. I cannot wait to race with him more often&#8221;.<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oCH-gxlsgYQ\"><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.domestiquecycling.com\/en\/news\/arensman-keeps-giro-podium-dream-alive-after-brutal-stage-14-i-did-my-absolute-best\/\">Arensman is now third, but Jai Hindley \u2014 who is 33 seconds behind him \u2014 is still bidding for his place in the classification. &#8220;We have always believed in the podium and have focused on that all race, but we are keeping both feet on the ground. With ambition, of course, because Thymen deserves to be on the podium.&#8221;<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingstage.com\/giro-2026-favourites\/contenders-italy-2026\/\"><\/p>\n<p>There are still two tough mountain stages to come in the Giro on Friday and Saturday, where Arensman can add extra shine to what is usually his strong third week.
