A brand new comedy is set to take centre stage this summer as\u00a0The Legend of Rooney\u2019s Ring\u00a0brings magic, mayhem and Merseyside humour to the Royal Court. <\/p>\n
Penned by\u00a0Motherland\u00a0and\u00a0Amandaland\u00a0writer\u00a0Helen Serafinowicz, the show marks her debut as a playwright\u2014and promises to be one of the highlights of Liverpool\u2019s theatre calendar.<\/p>\n
Leading the cast is actor and comedian\u00a0John May, making his Royal Court debut as\u00a0Wayne\u2014a brave warrior on a riotous quest to reclaim love, honour, and a very important ring. Starring alongside him is\u00a0Emma Grace Arends\u00a0as\u00a0C\u2019leen, the kingdom\u2019s most beautiful woman and a bricklayer\u2019s daughter from Crocky.<\/p>\n
Also joining the cast are Royal Court favourites\u00a0Lindzi Germain\u00a0as\u00a0Queen Colette\u00a0and\u00a0Keddy Sutton\u00a0as the irrepressible\u00a0Nana.<\/p>\n
Directed by\u00a0Stephen Fletcher\u00a0and with design by\u00a0Olivia Du Monceau, the show reimagines sword-and-sorcery epics with a distinctly Scouse twist. Packed with original songs, off-the-wall characters, romance, and the theatre\u2019s signature wit,\u00a0The Legend of Rooney\u2019s Ring\u00a0is inspired by a \u201chalf-true rumour\u201d and a pop culture myth that sees Wayne set off on a noble (and slightly ridiculous) mission after C\u2019leen hurls his ring far, far away.<\/p>\n
Promising laughs, adventure and a healthy dose of Royal Court irreverence, the show opens this summer in Liverpool.<\/p>\n
