{"id":989453,"date":"2026-05-28T04:34:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T04:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/989453\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T04:34:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T04:34:21","slug":"meeting-will-discuss-controversial-beeston-housing-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/989453\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting will discuss controversial Beeston housing development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/St-Georges-Crypt-Sunnyview-Gardents-Brewster-Bye.png\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>A controversial planning application to build supported housing for people at risk of homelessness in Beeston will be discussed at a meeting on Monday (1 June 2026).<\/p>\n<p>St George\u2019s Crypt, which has run a city centre homeless shelter for many years, has submitted a planning application to build 34 self-contained flats and two houses on former Pullan\u2019s site on Sunnyview Gardens in Beeston.<\/p>\n<p>In a covering letter to the application the charity says the homes are for \u201cpeople with recent histories of homelessness, those at immediate risk of homelessness, and individuals who are vulnerably housed.\u201d It continues:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe proposed development builds on established models that St George\u2019s Crypt has successfully delivered and managed elsewhere, combining specialist housing with appropriate support in a way that compliments local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Whilst some residents have supported the plan on local Facebook groups, others say the development is in the wrong place, citing its proximity to a residential care home and sheltered housing.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Andrew Scopes (Labour, Beeston &amp; Holbeck) said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI know the planning proposals submitted by St George\u2019s Crypt have caused a lot of anxiety, at least in part due to the lack of consultation prior to submitting the planning application. I\u2019ve organised this meeting to give people a chance to hear directly from St George\u2019s Crypt about their plans and to ask questions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe type of housing proposed is massively needed but needs to be in the right place and with the support of the neighbouring community.
