An anti-Islam mural unveiled in Co Antrim on Saturday is being treated as a \u201chate incident\u201d by the PSNI. <\/p>\n

Police received a report around lunchtime concerning the unveiling of the display in the Tulleevin Walk area of Newtownabbey.<\/p>\n

The mural shows what appears to be an AI image of a burning church, and includes the headline \u2018A new evil has arisen\u2019 across the centre.<\/p>\n

Above that are two quotes, \u2018Islam is Heathen, Islam is Satanic\u2019 and \u2018Islam is a Doctrine spawned in Hell\u2019.<\/p>\n

There are also references to Winston Churchill, Enoch Powell and Pastor James McConnell.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said: \u201cOfficers attended the area and examined the mural erected on a property. This report is being treated as a hate incident \u2013 with potential criminal damage offences.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur enquiries are ongoing in relation to this matter \u2013 and we will be engaging with community representatives and partner agencies in due course.”<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone with information is asked to contact police on the 101 number, quoting reference 724 30\/05\/26.\u201d<\/p>\n

The display appeared one day after police said they were investigating the erection of an anti-immigration sign in Co Tyrone<\/a>.<\/p>\n
