Tom Holland recently told Empire<\/a> that he is looking forward to passing on the \u201cSpider-Man\u201d mantle to whoever takes over the Marvel franchise next.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor whoever\u2019s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,\u201d Holland said. \u201cWhatever that looks like, I don\u2019t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holland is referring to Robert Downey Jr.\u2019s Tony Stark, who first brought Holland\u2019s Peter Parker into the MCU in 2016\u2019s \u201cCaptain America: Civil War\u201d before meeting his demise in 2019\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d (Downey is set to rejoin the MCU as villain Dr. Doom in \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d).<\/p>\n

Since his debut as the red and blue webslinger, Holland has emerged as one of Marvel\u2019s most valuable stars. His first standalone film, \u201cSpider-Man: Homecoming,\u201d started strong with $880 million at the worldwide box office in 2017. But it\u2019s two sequels, 2019\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: Far From Home\u201d and 2021\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home,\u201d exploded to $1.1 billion and $1.9 billion worldwide, respectively. The latest \u201cSpider-Man\u201d adventure, \u201cBrand New Day,\u201d hits theaters on July 31 and is poised to be another box office smash.<\/p>\n

In a recent profile with GQ, Holland says \u201cBrand New Day\u201d had to shoot a few additional scenes, which he described as the \u201cicing on the cake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can positively say that the stuff we\u2019re doing, we don\u2019t need,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cThe movie works and sings as it is. We\u2019re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We\u2019re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We\u2019re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
