Households struggling as the cost of living crisis rumbles on can get access to extra cash.<\/p>\n

As part of the Government’s Household Support Fund, you could get held with essential costs from your local council.<\/p>\n

The extra payment could help if you are struggling to pay for energy and water bills, food or other essential items.<\/p>\n

Gov.uk says: “Funding is aimed at anyone who\u2019s vulnerable or cannot pay for essentials.<\/p>\n

“You do not have to be getting benefits to get help from your local council.<\/p>\n

“If you get benefits, they will not be affected if you get a payment from a Household Support Fund scheme.”<\/p>\n

The Household Support Fund is a scheme from the Department for Work and Pensions where funding is issued to councils, who distribute the support to those in need.<\/p>\n

Applications in Birmingham<\/a> for the \u00a3200 cost of living payments are expected to open within weeks.<\/p>\n

Birmingham City Council<\/a> says: “The current round of funding closed to new applications on March 31, 2025.<\/p>\n

“Enquiries are expected to reopen in June 2025.”<\/p>\n

To be eligible, you must be a Birmingham resident, be able to demonstrate that your household is experiencing financial hardship – in particular covering food and energy costs – and your household must not have received a \u00a3200 grant payment in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

In Birmingham, the scheme is is run in partnership between the city council and Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC).<\/p>\n

BVSC said: “Please be advised that enquiries will reopen in June 2025.<\/p>\n
