The meteor appears to have fragmented at an altitude of 40 miles over northeast MA and southeast NH. The energy released at breakup is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, which accounts for the loud noise. Pretty skeptical anyone actually saw a bright fireball. Who are these eyewitnesses? Any videos?&#8221; Another said: &#8220;Due to the clouds, not able see fire ball, but sure as heck heard it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While others were in total shock and wrote: &#8220;I saw this while traveling with a camper. I thought it was a missle\/nuke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The American Meteorological Society says on its website that meteors move at extremely high speeds, and larger rocks that survive longer in the atmosphere can sometimes produce a sonic boom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Witnessing a meteor during the day is extremely rare.
