{"id":998038,"date":"2026-06-01T09:31:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T09:31:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/998038\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T09:31:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T09:31:18","slug":"tate-co-submits-low-carbon-homes-plan-for-crown-estate-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/998038\/","title":{"rendered":"Tate + Co submits low-carbon homes plan for Crown Estate programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The scheme, to be built on a 37,000m2 agricultural site at the northern edge of Knutsford, is one of three flagship projects within the Crown Estate\u2019s ongoing programme exploring how high-quality, energy-efficient homes can be delivered at scale, with the aim of tackling the affordability crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Tate + Co was appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/archio-mole-and-tateco-picked-for-crown-estate-housing-projects\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last year<\/a> by the Crown Estate\u2019s development partner, igloo Regeneration. Elsewhere, in Hertfordshire, Archio and Mole have been selected for a scheme by developer TOWN, while at <a href=\"https:\/\/wootton-pc.gov.uk\/crown-estate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wootton<\/a> in Bedfordshire, partner developer gs8, is working with architect Boehm Lynas on a 50-home project.<\/p>\n<p>The planned Cheshire development comprises a mix of homes ranging from one to five bedrooms and up to two and a half storeys, with around 30 per cent delivered as affordable housing and 40 per cent being accessible or adaptable.<\/p>\n<p>The homes have been grouped into \u2018community clusters\u2019 of seven to twelve houses, each enclosing either a community or private garden space.<\/p>\n<p>The neighbourhood would be built around a new public realm with landscaping by Planit, including \u2018generous\u2019 green spaces, minimal road infrastructure and pedestrian-led streets, along with 135 car parking spaces for residents and visitors. A central park runs through the heart of the masterplan with play spaces and picnic areas.<\/p>\n<p>Igloo project director Michelle Williams said: \u2018At Knutsford, we have the opportunity to demonstrate what the future of sustainable neighbourhoods can look like in practice \u2013 combining low-carbon living with high-quality design and meaningful placemaking.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The proposals also include a community pavilion, constructed from recycled materials, including a reused agricultural shed frame.<\/p>\n<p>Tate + Co\u2019s low-carbon homes feature timber cladding at upper levels and red brick at lower levels, in a design that \u2018references the vernacular of Knutsford\u2019 and \u2018brings a new identity and character to the development\u2019, according to design documents.<\/p>\n<p>Crown Estate head of strategic land Rob Chesworth said: \u2018Across the country, we need to find new ways to deliver homes and communities that are affordable, sustainable and sensitive to the local area.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This is exactly what our proposals in Knutsford are seeking to provide.
