{"id":999305,"date":"2026-06-01T23:56:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/999305\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T23:56:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:56:20","slug":"virginia-woolfs-night-and-day-world-premieres-at-sxsw-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/999305\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia Woolf&#8217;s Night and Day World Premieres at SXSW London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe intersection of technology and culture may be the main focus of <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/sxsw-london\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sxsw-london\" data-tag=\"sxsw-london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SXSW London<\/a>, but that\u2019s not to say there isn\u2019t room for a splash of old fashioned period rom-com in the lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn the first day of the Austin spinoff\u2019s second edition in London, \u201cVirginia Woolf\u2019s Night and Day\u201d served as the opening night curtain raiser of the film strand, with the cast and crew in attendance for the well-received world premiere at the Barbican Centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAmong those on the red carpet and on stage before and after the special screening were stars <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/haley-bennett\/\" id=\"auto-tag_haley-bennett\" data-tag=\"haley-bennett\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Haley Bennett<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jack-whitehall\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jack-whitehall\" data-tag=\"jack-whitehall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Whitehall<\/a> and Timothy Spall, plus producer and writer Justine Waddell and director Tina Ghavari. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSet in 1910 and based on Woolf\u2019s novel, \u201cVirginia Woolf\u2019s Night and Day\u201d follows eager astronomer Katharine (Bennett), doing everything she can to avoid love and marriage to focus on her two passions: the stars and Cambridge University. However, when her controlling father (Spall) tries to push her away from her scientific pursuits and into marriage with old family friend William (Whitehall), the headstrong young woman stands up to expectations forced on her by getting involved in the Suffragette movement, spearheaded by the inspirational, straight-talking Mary (<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/lily-allen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lily-allen\" data-tag=\"lily-allen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lily Allen<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t know that Virginia Woolf could be wacky,\u201d Waddell told the audience after the premiere. \u201cAnd I just found that endearing \u2014 that comic energy was something I fell in love with.
