\n\tAnna Kendrick<\/a> is stepping in to direct the The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix announced Monday that the star will helm the film adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid\u2019s 2017 best-selling novel\u00a0The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.<\/p>\n

\n\tLittle Fires Everywhere\u00a0creator, showrunner and executive producer\u00a0Liz Tigelaar\u00a0will write the film, with current revisions by\u00a0Francesca Sloane. Producers include Liza Chasin for 3Dot Productions and Brad Mendelsohn for Circle of Confusion. Reid and Margaret Chernin will exec produce. Reid will also exec produce.<\/p>\n

\n\tKendrick directing is the latest update with the adaptation. The best-selling novel was\u00a0previously in development<\/a>\u00a0for a series on Freeform with\u00a0The L Word\u2018s Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals\u00a0exec producing. Kendrick made her directorial debut with Woman of the Hour which released on Netflix in late 2024. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo\u00a0centers on reclusive, iconic Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo, who enlists unknown reporter Monique Grant to write her tell-all book, which will chronicle her life story and rise to fame during the golden age of Hollywood. Always the subject of tabloids, Evelyn also details for the first time her seven marriages, revealing secrets she\u2019s held on to, who she is behind the scenes and why she chose Monique for her final confession.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough casting for the film has yet to be publicly announced, fans have been quick to pinpoint certain Hollywood stars as their picks to portray the book\u2019s characters, most notably Jessica Chastain, Ana de Armas and Eiza Gonz\u00e1lez. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring an interview with\u00a0E! News\u00a0in 2023, Chastain said that there is\u00a0\u201czero possibility\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that she would star in the adaptation as Celia St. James but loved to see how \u201cwonderful\u201d the book\u2019s fanbase is.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile both de Armas and Gonz\u00e1lez have expressed being open<\/a> to starring in the film for the titular role. \u201dIt\u2019d be such an honor,\u201d\u00a0Gonz\u00e1lez has said. \u201cI love the book. I love all [Reid\u2019s] stuff. I\u2019m a huge fan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEvelyn Hugo\u00a0is just one of a number of Reid\u2019s books<\/a> to be adapted for the screen. Carrie Soto is Back\u00a0is in development as a TV series for Netflix with Amanda Kate Shuman writing and Serena Williams exec producing. The Hollywood Reporter\u00a0exclusively revealed<\/a>\u00a0that Reid\u2019s novel\u00a0Malibu Rising<\/a>\u00a0is being developed as a TV series for Hulu, with Taylor adapting and executive producing alongside Circle of Confusion. The author\u2019s novel\u00a0One True Loves\u00a0was\u00a0adapted for film\u00a0<\/a>and starred\u00a0Hamilton\u2018s\u00a0Phillipa Soo,\u00a0Shang Chi\u2019s Simu Liu and\u00a0Holidate\u2018s Luke Bracey. Meanwhile, her best-seller\u00a0Daisy Jones and the Six\u00a0was released as a Prime Video series that starred\u00a0Riley Keough and Sam Claflin.<\/p>\n
