Ukraine says it has attacked vessels in the Caspian Sea used to transfer military cargo between Russia and Iran.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Ukrainian forces also struck a logistics facility in Yekaterinburg in central Russia.
The attacks came as Ukraine steps up efforts to disrupt Russian supply chains to weaken its fighting capabilities.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Ukraine, saying it had struck an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea. They called it a violation of international law. The ministry said the attack killed one sailor and injured another.
Iran says it has never intervened in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Tehran criticized Ukraine, saying Kyiv is seeking to expand the war.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said on Sunday that it also hit energy- and military-related facilities in Crimea. It claims the sites were being used for Russian refueling efforts and for controlling drones. Russia unilaterally annexed Crimea in 2014.
Russia also continued its attacks against Ukraine.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said on Sunday that Russian strikes killed two people, including a 9-year-old girl, in the Chernihiv region in Ukraine’s north.
The emergency service also said one person was killed in the eastern region of Kharkiv and another in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia.
