Lisbon Ukrainians held a rally to remember Olenivka and press for international accountability, while raising funds for the armed forces.
Representatives of the Lisbon Ukrainian community organized a demonstration in the center of Portugal’s capital to draw the international community’s attention to Russia’s war crimes and calls for continued support for Ukraine.
The volunteer community With Portugal announced the event on Facebook.
During the event, participants also recalled the Olenivka tragedy: on the night of July 28–29, 2022, as a result of a Russian terrorist attack, 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed, and over 130 were wounded.
In addition to the information campaign, the activists held a charitable fundraising drive. This time they managed to raise 290 euros, which will be donated to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the Come Back Alive Foundation.
According to the organizers, since the start of the weekly actions, the Lisbon Ukrainian community has collected and transferred 835,867 hryvnias to the Come Back Alive Foundation.
Context of the Action and Results
The next action by the Ukrainian community will take place on Saturday, August 1, at 6:00 PM local time on Praça Dom Pedro IV square in central Lisbon. The organizers invite everyone to join the event and express solidarity with Ukraine.
The Olenivka incident and the reaction of the international community are also mentioned. It also notes the conclusion of the UN Experts Group: a UN analysis confirms that Russia carried out the attack.
Lisbon community actions will continue, as they are aimed at supporting Ukraine and drawing attention to violations of international law. Such initiatives underscore the importance of joint efforts on the international stage and the support of our defenders.
