A new wave of price decreases for greenhouse tomatoes has emerged in Ukraine this week, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. Weather conditions have stabilized in many regions of the country, allowing growers to intensify the harvest of open-field vegetables. Harvesting is currently underway in almost all regions of Ukraine, while pressure on the market continues to grow. According to farmers, demand in the fresh produce market remains relatively weak.
At present, prices for high-quality tomatoes have fallen to UAH 30-60/kg ($0.67-1.34/kg), which is on average 27% lower than at the end of the previous working week. Both producers and wholesale traders attribute marketing difficulties to the poor quality of the crop. Plants have been severely affected by drought and high temperatures, while the fruit often shows signs of sunburn and cracking, reducing its marketability.

It is worth noting that greenhouse tomatoes are currently being offered on the Ukrainian market at prices that are, on average, 25% lower than during the same period last year.
