In Scotland, 11 Ukrainian service members joined the 15th Cateran Yomp – a 24-hour ultramarathon, with participants covering a distance of up to 54 miles (over 87 km) through the Cairngorms Highlands in Perthshire.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported on Telegram that the event took place on June 6–7, 2026. The Ukrainian delegation included 11 service members, four of whom sustained serious injuries and amputations. Despite their injuries, they covered about 40 km in 12 hours.

This year, more than a thousand veterans and civilians from various countries participated. Ukraine was represented at Cateran Yomp 2026 by 11 service members, four of whom were soldiers with serious injuries and amputations. Despite their injuries, they completed about 40 km in 12 hours.

About Cateran Yomp 2026 and the purpose of participation

The General Staff noted that Cateran Yomp 2026 is part of a systematic support for veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with participation from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and partners in collaboration with civil society. Such events as the Marine Corps Marathon and the Soldier Field 10 Run in Chicago have proven to be effective tools for physical and psychological rehabilitation and for strengthening camaraderie among comrades.

In Zhytomyr, serviceman Dmytro Kosatyi from the 199th Training Center of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine set a Ukrainian record for completing the Murph endurance workout.

Such initiatives underscore the importance of international support for veterans and their rehabilitation through sport and joint charitable programs that help restore esprit de corps and camaraderie among service members from different countries.
