Potato prices have continued to decline on the Ukrainian market for the second consecutive week. According to analysts from the EastFruit project, the main reason behind this trend is the ongoing large-scale harvesting campaign in the country’s key production regions, which has resulted in increased potato supplies to the market.
Currently, potatoes from Ukrainian farms are offered for sale at UAH 6-12/kg ($0.13-0.29/kg), which is on average 14% lower than at the end of the previous working week.
The main factor behind the price decrease is the seasonal increase in supply, as market volumes have been growing almost daily. At the same time, demand in this segment remains below average, which is also putting pressure on potato prices.
It is worth noting that potato prices in Ukraine are currently, on average, 37% lower than during the same period last year. Meanwhile, market participants remain rather pessimistic. According to them, given the relatively large potato production volumes in the country, there is little reason to expect a price increase in the near future.
