After Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Ukraine and Poland on September 3-5, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said.
The MEA said that Jaishankar will hold talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Polish FM and Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
“The visit will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and also provide an opportunity to exchange views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest,” the MEA further said.
The visit comes amid concerns that the escalating Russia-Ukraine war could expand beyond the two countries.
The visit immediately follows the Modi-Putin meeting on the sidelines of the SCO Summit at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
In public remarks during the meeting, Modi told Putin that he must bring the “endless war” to an end.
“Every day that the war continues, humanity is, in effect, set back a step, whilst every step towards peace gives all of humanity real hope for peace. We need to move from endless war to an end to the war, to a cessation of hostilities. And we will need to move precisely in this direction,” said Modi.
