{"id":11857,"date":"2026-07-02T00:35:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T00:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/11857\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T00:35:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T00:35:13","slug":"ukrainian-teens-spending-part-of-summer-in-central-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/11857\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian teens spending part of summer in Central Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CASSELBERRY, Fla. \u2014 Ten teenagers from war-torn parts of Ukraine are spending part of the summer in Central Florida, where they are getting a temporary break from the fighting at home and could eventually attend school in Central Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The teens arrived in Central Florida in late June from some of the hardest-hit war zones in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>They are in the U.S. until the end of July, with visits to theme parks and the beach planned during their stay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s more peaceful than in Ukraine because in Ukraine it\u2019s scary \u2014 there are rockets like every day in my hometown,\u201d said Anna Los, a Ukraine resident.<\/p>\n<p>For some of the teens, reminders of the war remain even while they are thousands of miles from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I hear the fireworks or something like that, I remember the war in Ukraine and I\u2019m frightened by that, but it\u2019s so cool that I\u2019m here now,\u201d said Max Bondarenko, a Ukraine resident.<\/p>\n<p>The trip was organized by Elvira Varyvoda, the founder of Varyvoda Christian Academy in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>The private school, <a href=\"https:\/\/mynews13.com\/fl\/orlando\/news\/2023\/11\/30\/ukraine-orlando-school-\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which opened in 2023<\/a>, serves about 40 students, many from Ukraine and some from Central Florida as well.<\/p>\n<p>People can apply for enrollment to the school on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.varyvodaacademy.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>. Varyvoda said she has spent tens of thousands of dollars of her own money, along with help from donations \u2014 many of those from local churches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod called me to open the school,\u201d Varyvoda said. \u201cI had a dream, and the dream said to me, \u2018Hey, you have to do something that can help these kids.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With extended travel visas that allow them to spend six months at a time in the U.S., several of the students hope to eventually attend Varyvoda Christian Academy.<\/p>\n<p>For now, the focus is on giving them time away from the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere there is lots of rollercoasters, pools and &#8230; it\u2019s so beautiful,\u201d Bondarenko said. \u201cThe nature is beautiful \u2014 it\u2019s fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fighting in Ukraine remains on the minds of the teens. Recently, Ukraine has made gains by striking parts of Russia\u2019s capital, Moscow, while Ukraine continues to take hits as well from Russia.
