{"id":12143,"date":"2026-07-02T10:32:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/12143\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T10:32:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:32:22","slug":"germany-indicts-ukrainian-over-nord-stream-sabotage-alleges-kyiv-backed-plot-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/12143\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany indicts Ukrainian over Nord Stream sabotage, alleges Kyiv-backed plot \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/zelenskyy-denies-ukraine-involvement-in-nord-stream-pipeline-blasts\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/zelenskyy-denies-ukraine-involvement-in-nord-stream-pipeline-blasts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has denied<\/a> that his government was involved in the sabotage.<\/p>\n<p>Six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrata.es\/en\/international\/the-german-prosecutor-s-office-accuses-a-ukrainian-for-the-nord-stream-sabotage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">underwater explosions<\/a> in September 2022 destroyed three of the four Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines linking Russia and Germany, triggering years of  a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/nord-stream-pipeline-energy-supply-attack-ukraine-russia-war-putin-zelensky-gas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blame game<\/a> over who was behind one of Europe&#8217;s most consequential acts of sabotage. Russia, Ukraine, the United States and the United Kingdom have all, at various points, been accused or suspected of involvement with varying degrees of evidence. <\/p>\n<p>After Russia&#8217;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Berlin moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-63709352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">end imports<\/a> of Russian gas. German investigators later concluded the sabotage had been planned by a Ukrainian group as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welt.de\/politik\/deutschland\/plus252370644\/Nord-Stream-Anschlag-soll-schon-vor-zehn-Jahren-geplant-worden-sein.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">early as 2014<\/a>, as previously reported by WELT and POLITICO.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe Serhii K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germany-ukrainian-national-charged-over-nord-stream-blasts\/a-77791335\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">commanded<\/a> the sailing yacht Andromeda, from which the operation was allegedly launched. According to the indictment, he entered Germany via Poland in September 2022 using a forged Ukrainian passport before transporting military-grade explosives by yacht to waters near the Danish island of Bornholm. <\/p>\n<p>German investigators have previously said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germany-ukrainian-national-charged-over-nord-stream-blasts\/a-77791335\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">traces of the explosives<\/a> HMX and RDX were found aboard the vessel. The man was then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/politik\/erste-anklage-gegen-mutmasslichen-nord-stream-saboteur-6a4530d81f5535004df20fd6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">arrested<\/a> in Italy in August 2025, extradited to Germany three months later and has remained in pretrial detention in Hamburg ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Serhii K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/germany-charges-nord-stream-suspect-with-war-crime-complicity-sabotage-2026-07-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">denies<\/a> the allegations.
