Russian glide bombs struck residential areas of the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia in a concentrated attack Sunday evening, killing one person and injuring 31 others, according to news agency AP citing regional governor Ivan Fedorov.<\/p>\n
Eight bombs were dropped within about 90 minutes, damaging 22 apartment buildings across four districts, Fedorov said. The victims included a 71-year-old woman who was killed and a 16-year-old girl among those wounded.<\/p>\n
Russian glide bombs devastate Zaporizhzhia<\/p>\n
Russia has increasingly relied on glide bombs against Ukrainian cities since launching its full-scale invasion more than four years ago. The weapons are Soviet-era bombs modified with guidance systems, allowing them to strike targets from a distance.<\/p>\n
Some of the bombs can carry up to 3,000 kilograms (6,600 pounds) of explosives, producing massive craters and extensive destruction. Ukraine has struggled to develop an effective defence against the weapons.<\/p>\n
The latest attack adds to the growing toll on civilian areas as Russia continues to use glide bombs, drones and ballistic missiles against Ukrainian targets.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy renews call for Patriot systems<\/p>\n
Alongside the glide-bomb attacks, Russian ballistic missiles remain a major threat to Ukrainian cities. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has again urged Western allies to supply additional U.S.-made Patriot air defence systems.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy said Patriot interceptors are among the few systems capable of reliably stopping ballistic missiles, but supplies have become increasingly limited amid the war involving Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world has Patriot missiles,\u201d Zelenskyy said on social media, calling on allies to make the political decision to provide Ukraine with the systems it needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe United States knows what we need. Europe knows what we need. Anti-ballistic missiles must protect people \u2014 not sit in stockpiles,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s Patriot production plan remains uncertain<\/p>\n
U.S. President Donald Trump last week appeared to retreat from an earlier commitment to allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot systems under licence.<\/p>\n
Trump said Friday that discussions over the licensing arrangement were continuing and that he had not yet made a final decision.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy has also floated an alternative proposal involving Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink satellite network. He suggested Ukraine could potentially use Starlink to help target ballistic missile launch sites inside Russia, although officials have not publicly indicated whether the proposal is under consideration.<\/p>\n
Russia launches 181 drones overnight<\/p>\n
Ukraine\u2019s air force said Russia launched 181 long-range attack drones between Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian air defences intercepted or jammed 163 of them, while 14 drones reportedly struck 13 locations and caused damage, according to the air force.<\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s Defence Ministry, meanwhile, claimed its forces had struck four bulk carriers transporting supplies for the Ukrainian military. Three were allegedly hit in the Black Sea and another at the port of Mykolaiv. The ministry did not provide further details.<\/p>\n
Drone attacks hit Crimea and southern Russia<\/p>\n
The overnight fighting also extended to areas controlled by Russia.<\/p>\n
Three people were killed and two wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on Crimea, according to Russian-installed regional head Sergei Aksyonov. He did not provide details of the incident.<\/p>\n
In Russia\u2019s Krasnodar region, falling debris from Ukrainian drones killed three people and injured 13 others in the Black Sea coastal town of Arkhipo-Osipovka, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said.<\/p>\n
Wildberries warehouse catches fire<\/p>\n
Ukrainian drones also struck a warehouse operated by Wildberries, Russia\u2019s largest online retailer, in the Vladimir region east of Moscow.<\/p>\n
The company said the facility caught fire following the latest attack. The strike is part of a wider campaign that has targeted more than a dozen Wildberries distribution centres, disrupting the company\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n
Vladimir Governor Alexander Avdeyev said three people were injured in the incident.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian strikes target Russian energy sites<\/p>\n
Ukraine also carried out attacks against several targets inside Russia overnight.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces struck the Saratov oil refinery, the Engels military airfield and other sites. The attacks also reportedly targeted fuel storage tanks at the Lyudinovskaya oil depot in Russia\u2019s Kaluga region.<\/p>\n
