One person has been killed and 12 others injured in a Russian ballistic missile attack on Ukraine\u2019s capital, Kyiv, the city\u2019s military administration said.<\/p>\n

The strikes early on Wednesday morning come after at least 27 people were killed<\/a> in separate attacks in Ukraine and Russia earlier this week, with the five-year-long conflict showing no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

Kyiv\u2019s military administration said seven sites had come under attack in the assault that began after midnight. Air raid alerts for Kyiv remained in place for more than an hour.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said one warehouse building had been destroyed near the city centre and rescue teams had pulled two people from the ruins.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere may still be people under the rubble,\u201d he wrote on Telegram. \u201cSearch and rescue operations are proceeding.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an earlier post on Telegram, Klitschko said that air defence units had been in action to repel the assault.<\/p>\n

In the surrounding Kyiv region, another person was killed and 21 other people injured, local authorities said on Telegram.<\/p>\n

Ukraine has in recent months urged its allies for more supplies of US-made Patriot missile interceptors to protect its airspace against Russian ballistic attacks.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said a lack of ballistic missile interceptors \u201conly encourages Russia to launch such attacks that take human lives\u201d.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy met US President<\/a>\u00a0Donald Trump last Tuesday, partly to lobby Washington for licences to produce Patriots domestically.<\/p>\n
