Wolodymyr Zelensky/X

Recently, Ukraine has been carrying out more aggressive strikes across Russia, allowing it to take back territory and stabilise the front line. Part of it was allowed by the renewal of consistent intelligence exchange between Washington and Kyiv.

According to Politico, the intelligence sharing between the states „has bounced back to previous highs.” Sen. Mark Warner, ranking member of the Intelligence Committee and a longtime proponent of more US assistance to Ukraine, told Politico that he sees evidence of an improved intel-sharing agreement. „I don’t want to get into specifics, but it has improved,” he said.

Republican Senators John Cornyn of the Intelligence Committee and Roger Wicker, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, agreed that intelligence sharing between the parties has indeed increased, and at a moment of strategic importance at that. „It sure seems like that,” Cornyn said. „Everybody loves a winner and it looks like Ukraine has turned the tide..”

In recent times, we have observed Ukraine regularly attacking targets inside Russian territory. In early July, those strikes on Russian energy infrastructure forced Moscow to halt its exports of diesel. Successful attacks bolster Ukraine’s negotiating position and, if they continue to deal sufficient damage, may force Russia to return to the negotiating table. George Barros, the director of innovation and open-source tradecraft at the hawkish Institute for the Study of War, said that it was the Ukraine–US cooperation which enabled Kyiv to gain an advantage over Moscow. He noted that Donald Trump reportedly approved intelligence sharing for Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure last year, an essential tool for conducting successful attacks. Ukraine has also been using American early warning systems, which alert it to incoming Russian missile attacks.

The White House itself did not provide details on whether the intelligence exchange has been expanded, nor did the CIA and ODNI. A spokesperson for the White House insisted that Donald Trump is mainly focused on ending the war altogether. „The President wants this war settled so the senseless killing ends. The President and his team remain committed to continuing to play a constructive role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, and he remains optimistic that we’ll ultimately get a peace deal done.”

Photo.
