{"id":26586,"date":"2026-08-10T15:22:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/26586\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T15:22:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:22:08","slug":"ukraine-kills-13-including-a-child-in-drone-attack-on-russian-city-of-nizhnekamsk-officials-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/26586\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine kills 13, including a child, in drone attack on Russian city of Nizhnekamsk, officials say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">MOSCOW, Aug 10 (Reuters) &#8211; A Ukrainian drone strike killed at least 13 people, including Central Asian nationals and a child, and wounded 39 others in the Russian city \u200cof Nizhnekamsk, authorities said on Monday, one of the heaviest civilian tolls in Russia \u200cin months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ukraine&#8217;s military said it had hit Tatneft&#8217;s TANECO oil refinery in the Tatarstan region, about 800 km (497 miles) east of \u200bMoscow, adding that a fire was recorded at the facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Russian investigators said they had opened a criminal case into what they qualified as a terrorist attack, saying in a statement that Ukraine had struck residential areas and that a child was among those civilians killed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the \u200cstrike had hit industrial facilities and \u2060residential buildings and accused Kyiv of deliberately attacking civilians. Ukraine and Russia have repeatedly said they do not target civilians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Seven Uzbek citizens were among those killed \u2060in Nizhnekamsk, the Uzbek consulate in Kazan said. A Tajik citizen was also killed, Russian state news agency TASS cited the Tajik foreign ministry as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nine out of 13 victims were in a hostel at \u200bthe time \u200bof the strike, Russian state news agency RIA said, \u200bciting the press office of the \u200chead of the region. Reuters could not immediately verify the report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In videos verified by Reuters on social media, smoke can be seen rising over the oil refinery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The TANECO refinery, which was also hit by Ukraine in early June, processed 17 million metric tons of crude oil in 2024, producing 2.7 million tons of gasoline and 8.5 million tons of diesel fuel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ukraine has stepped up its strikes on \u200cRussian oil refineries in recent months in a campaign \u200bthat has caused fuel shortages in many parts of Russia, \u200balthough authorities say that most of those \u200binitial problems have since been resolved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ukraine says it wants to bring the price \u200cof Russia&#8217;s war home to ordinary Russians. \u200bMoscow has imported fuel from \u200boverseas to help bolster supplies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Sunday, both sides again accused each other of lethal attacks.
