{"id":30540,"date":"2026-08-19T16:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T16:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/30540\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T16:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T16:13:08","slug":"russia-and-ukraine-swap-103-prisoners-of-war-each-amid-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/30540\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia and Ukraine swap 103 prisoners of war each amid war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 103 prisoners of war each, officials from both sides said on Wednesday, with Ukrainian intelligence saying another swap was expected before the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>Kyiv and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/internationalrussia-ukraine-war\/article-905865\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Moscow<\/a> have carried out regular POW exchanges throughout the war that started with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/ukraine-russia-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Russia&#8217;s<\/a> invasion of its smaller neighbor in 2022, while remaining far apart on terms for any peace deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram the brought home included servicemen from the Armed Forces, the State Border Guard Service, and the National Guard.<\/p>\n<p>On the Russian side, Interfax news agency cited the Russian Ministry of Defence for news of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/internationalrussia-ukraine-war\/article-857082\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">exchange<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a wonderful day. I&#8217;ve returned home. I haven&#8217;t done anything heroic, and I don&#8217;t consider myself special,&#8221; Dmytro, 29, a Ukrainian who was a prisoner for three years, told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;I want to tell the families of the men who are still being held: keep believing and don&#8217;t lose hope,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Another Ukrainian serviceman, heading home after 28 months, Anton Tymofienko, 43, recalled his time in captivity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;The most we received were letters from relatives &#8230; Otherwise, we had no information,&#8221; he said.
