{"id":30804,"date":"2026-08-20T10:45:29","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/30804\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T10:45:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:45:29","slug":"zelenskyys-rival-fedorov-overplays-his-hand-with-election-push-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/30804\/","title":{"rendered":"Zelenskyy\u2019s rival Fedorov overplays his hand with election push \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even one of the leaders of the protest movement, war veteran Dmytro Koziatysnkyi, said he didn\u2019t want to see elections during wartime. \u201cI am also very afraid of the disunity of society during the electoral process and how this may affect the course of the war,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Far from bolstering Fedorov\u2019s political future, the call for an election could even count against him. <\/p>\n<p>Economist Timothy Ash, who frequently writes on Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tashecon\/status\/2090012983531393412\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">suggested <\/a>the ex-minister had made \u201can extraordinary political error of judgement which some would likely use against him if he ever pitches in to run as president in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volodymyr Fesenko, a political analyst based in Kyiv, conceded Zelenskyy had become accustomed to \u201cacting like in business,\u201d defined by \u201csingle-man leadership\u201d and \u201cquick decisions,\u201d but argued that the president was hardly acting out of step with any other major international leader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen his critics say he should appoint professionals instead of loyalists, they sound right but naive at the same time. Even in the West, unless we are talking about coalition governments, such an approach does not work. Any serious politician \u2026 and especially in a country like ours, will appoint trusted loyalists,\u201d Fesenko added.<\/p>\n<p>Fesenko also defended Zelenskyy\u2019s record in appointing senior officials. He noted that Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, new commander-in-chief, Maj.
