Ukraine overnight hit with drones an oil refinery in the Perm region, deep into Russian territory, as the Ukrainian military has been targeting Russia\u2019s oil processing and exporting facilities on a nearly daily basis in the past few weeks.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack on Perm, which is over 1,600 kilometers, or 1,000 miles, from the Ukraine-Russia border, hitting an oil refinery, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said<\/a> on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cLast night, our deep strikes hit an oil refinery in Perm, more than 1,600 kilometers from the border, and the Marinovka military air base in the Volgograd region,\u201d Zelenskyy said in a post on X, which was accompanied by footage showing smoke billowing from an industrial complex.<\/p>\n \u201cWe continue, through our long-range sanctions, to bring the consequences of the war back to where it came from,\u201d the Ukrainian president said.<\/p>\n Ukrainian media report<\/a> that the oil refinery was Lukoil\u2019s Permnefteorgsintez crude processing facility, where a large fire broke out as a result of the hit.<\/p>\n Dmitry Makhonin, the governor of the Perm region, said<\/a> on his Telegram channel that Russian forces shot down 16 drones over the Perm region, but one industrial facility was damaged, with no injuries reported there. The Russian official did not elaborate which facility was hit.<\/p>\n The strike at Lukoil\u2019s refinery in Perm came hours after Ukraine hit a refinery<\/a> ultimately owned by Rosneft in Russia\u2019s Bashkortostan region earlier this week in a drone attack that sparked a fire.<\/p>\n For several months, Ukraine has been targeting Russian oil refineries in nearly-daily drone attacks to force Putin into peace negotiations while crippling Russia\u2019s fuel supply to the frontline and domestic gas stations.<\/p>\n Amid peak demand season, Russia has been suffering from\u00a0gasoline and diesel shortages<\/a> for over three months, as Ukraine\u2019s drone campaign to strike Russian refineries forced many large processing sites offline in the spring and summer.<\/p>\n By Charles Kennedy for Oilprice.com<\/p>\n
