{"id":33261,"date":"2026-08-25T15:35:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T15:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/33261\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T15:35:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T15:35:16","slug":"ukraines-newest-ballistic-missiles-are-weeks-away-from-combat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/33261\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine\u2019s newest ballistic missiles are weeks away from combat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">KYIV, Ukraine \u2014 Ukraine\u2019s latest domestically-made ballistic missile will be ready for combat by the end of next month, the country\u2019s biggest defense company said, providing Kyiv with a new offensive option to combat what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls Russia\u2019s \u201cballistic terror.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The president discussed the missile shortage as he repeated his call to allies to help bridge the gap in Ukraine\u2019s air defenses and weapons production capabilities during his annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/zvernennya-prezidenta-z-nagodi-dnya-nezalezhnosti-ukrayini-106017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">speech<\/a> commemorating 35 years of Ukrainian independence on Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cA solution to [Putin\u2019s] ballistic terror must be found, and this gamble of his must not pay off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Dubbed a lower-cost analogue of the U.S.-made ATACMS, Fire Point\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/firepoint.technology\/en\/ballistic-missile-fp-7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/firepoint.technology\/en\/ballistic-missile-fp-7\/\">FP-7 ballistic missile <\/a>can strike targets up to 186 miles (300 kilometers) away, depending on the size of its warhead, which can weigh up to 331 pounds (150 kilograms), according to company representatives. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The missile was previously expected to be combat-ready no earlier than the end of 2026. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Its accelerated debut comes as Kyiv seeks solutions to its shortage of ballistic interceptors and it doubles down on its \u201clong-range sanctions\u201d campaign of strikes on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/unmanned\/2026\/06\/25\/ukraines-top-strike-drone-maker-moves-into-ballistic-missile-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">oil refineries and missile launchers<\/a> across Russian territory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThe FP-7 is currently undergoing final tests in order to also receive certification and proceed to combat trials. So we expect its first combat use at the end of September,\u201d CEO Iryna Terekh said at the DALO Industry Days arms show in Denmark last week, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/unn.ua\/en\/amp\/the-fp-7-ballistic-missile-with-a-range-of-up-to-300-km-will-be-ready-to-carry-out-strikes-at-the-end-of-september-fire-point-ceo-iryna-terekh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UNN<\/a>. \u201cWe are ready for this; not much preparation remains,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Producing ballistic missiles could offer Kyiv three forms of relief at once: a way to strike the launchers it can no longer reliably intercept, a way to hold Russian cities at the same risk Ukrainian ones now face and fresh leverage in any return to negotiations, according to Ukrainian officials and military strategists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">With interceptors running low globally, destroying launchers on Russian soil cuts the number of ballistic and cruise missiles that Ukraine has to take down in the air, swapping a small mark racing through the sky for a truck-sized target sitting stationary on the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cAdvocates of a more offensive approach argue that the country should be aiming to \u2018shoot the archer, not the arrow,\u2019\u201d according to an Atlantic Council<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticcouncil.org\/blogs\/ukrainealert\/ukraine-cannot-defeat-putins-ballistic-blitz-by-defensive-measures-alone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> brief<\/a> published earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Fielding both missiles would \u201csignificantly enhance Kyiv\u2019s ability to strike Russian missile launch and production sites, while also potentially boosting deterrence,\u201d according to the analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The ballistics would also put pressure on Moscow\u2019s war infrastructure more broadly, a coercive deterrent that mirrors the strikes Russia has aimed at Ukraine\u2019s since 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Ukrainian officials and company spokespeople have also said that they hope that bringing ballistic warfare to Russian soil will help push Moscow back to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThe Russians must be brought to the negotiating table. There finally must be sanctions that will make them howl,\u201d Zelenskyy said during Monday\u2019s address. \u201cUkraine must be given everything that will force [Russia] to end the war.
