{"id":35413,"date":"2026-08-31T16:25:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T16:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/35413\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T16:25:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T16:25:06","slug":"indias-modi-tells-russias-putin-that-the-war-in-ukraine-must-end-for-humanitys-sake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/35413\/","title":{"rendered":"India&#8217;s Modi tells Russia&#8217;s Putin that the war in Ukraine must end for humanity&#8217;s sake\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">MOSCOW, Aug 31 (Reuters) &#8211; Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that the war in Ukraine needed \u200cto end for humanity&#8217;s sake and that New Delhi would support \u200cevery peace effort to stop the fighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Modi, who made his comments at the start of \u200btalks with Putin in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, called Putin &#8220;my friend&#8221; and hailed growing economic ties between the two countries which he said were guided by the need to put the interests of both nations above all else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">India, along with \u200cChina, is one of \u2060the biggest buyers of Russian oil, which has helped Moscow replenish its budget since it sent tens of thousands of \u2060troops into Ukraine in 2022 and was hit with sweeping Western sanctions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;As you are aware, India supports all peace efforts in this regard, and we shall continue \u200bto do \u200bso in the future,&#8221; Modi told \u200bPutin on the sidelines of the \u200cShanghai Cooperation Organization summit, according to a Kremlin transcript of their exchange.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Every day that the war continues, humanity is, in effect, set back a step, whilst every step towards peace gives all of humanity real hope for peace. We need to move from endless war to an end to the \u200cwar, to a cessation of hostilities.
