{"id":36821,"date":"2026-09-03T13:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/36821\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T13:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:53:07","slug":"ukraine-to-support-german-defenses-after-leipzig-drone-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/36821\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine to Support German Defenses After Leipzig Drone Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788443587_143_WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukraine and Germany are developing joint measures to counter drones and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure following Berlin\u2019s attribution of an attempted attack at Leipzig Airport to Russia, European Pravda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurointegration.com.ua\/news\/2026\/09\/2\/7244637\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev said Kyiv is sharing its experience in detecting Russian drones and protecting energy and transport networks with Germany\u2019s Interior Ministry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussions will continue through upcoming calls and bilateral visits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Makeiev, Berlin increasingly views sabotage and covert operations not as isolated attacks, but \u201cas systemic Russian work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leipzig Airport<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">German authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c5ylm3m67n2o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">discovered<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/08\/19\/germany-drone-research-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">drone carrying explosives<\/a> near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft at Leipzig\/Halle Airport on August 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The device failed to detonate because of an apparent fault in its detonator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located in eastern Germany, Leipzig\/Halle is one of Europe\u2019s largest cargo hubs and is used by the Bundeswehr and NATO to transport military equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also serves as a base for Ukraine\u2019s Antonov Airlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the formal attribution of the operation to Russia, described as part of a wider campaign of covert activity targeting Germany and other European nations, Berlin responded by ordering the closure of Russia\u2019s consulate general in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in the country\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Germany will also step up pressure on Russia\u2019s shadow fleet, a network of tankers used to export Russian oil while bypassing Western sanctions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attribution followed a recent warning from Germany\u2019s chief of defense, Gen.
