{"id":37553,"date":"2026-09-05T04:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T04:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/37553\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T04:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T04:46:09","slug":"ukraine-asks-eu-to-fund-first-patriot-missiles-buy-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/37553\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine asks EU to fund first Patriot missiles buy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">KYIV, Ukraine \u2014 The European Union is reviewing Kyiv\u2019s request to spend billions of euros on PAC-3 interceptor missiles for its Patriot batteries \u2014 the first time Ukraine has formally asked to tap a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/press\/press-releases\/2026\/04\/23\/council-finalises-90-billion-support-loan-to-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u20ac90 billion support loan<\/a> approved earlier this year to buy the U.S.-made systems, European officials announced this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe will keep supporting Ukraine, including with European air defence and PAC-3 Patriot systems,\u201d European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/vonderleyen\/status\/2095156388330692617\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote on X<\/a> on Sept. 2, confirming the request alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. \u201cWe will work closer than ever with NATO. And deter anyone who attacks our freedom and security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The statement comes a day after Ukraine\u2019s defense minister, Yevhenii Khmara, pressed allies for more aid.
