The president\u2019s special envoys Steve Witkoff<\/a> and Jared Kushner<\/a> said they had \u201cencouraging\u201d talks with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sunday to help end the Russia-Ukraine war<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters, Witkoff described<\/a> the latest round of peace talks as \u201csubstantive\u201d and \u201cimportant.\u201d Witkoff and Kushner spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/a> in their first visit to Kyiv amid the war.<\/p>\n

Zelensky thanked the U.S. diplomats for making the trip.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a good conversation \u2013 several rounds already \u2013 and we will continue talking today,\u201d he posted on X<\/a>. \u201cThe main thing is to achieve peace for Ukraine \u2013 a dignified, reliable, and lasting peace. We are directing all our efforts toward this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian and U.S. officials also deliberated with representatives from the United Kingdom<\/a>, France<\/a>, and Germany<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before traveling to Kyiv, the pair held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> in Moscow on Saturday. The two special envoys appointed by President Donald Trump<\/a> have visited Moscow multiple times, trying to facilitate peace.<\/p>\n

The talks with Putin resulted in no major breakthrough over the weekend, though the Kremlin said they were constructive and useful.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration is intent on ending the Russia-Ukraine war, as it has been over 4 and a half years since Russian forces invaded Ukrainian territory. Putin ordered a three-day pause in fighting as he met with Trump\u2019s envoys.
