President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine expects the United States to approve a new package of sanctions against Russia, although the issue was not discussed during today\u2019s talks with the U.S. side.<\/p>\n
The Ukrainian President said this during a joint press conference with the U.S. President\u2019s special envoys, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ukrainian side certainly hopes that the great work and efforts of Lindsey, a great friend of Ukraine, will receive a positive response from the United States. And, of course, we are counting on these sanctions, on this package,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
He noted that during previous meetings, the Ukrainian side had received positive signals regarding the sanctions package and was awaiting a vote.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that he does not link the issue of sanctions to the current visit of the U.S. representatives to Ukraine.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe U.S. side did not raise this issue today, and we did not discuss it with them… I am absolutely certain that these are not related matters to our meeting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to the President, the visit by the U.S. team is aimed at resuming the negotiation process.<\/p>\n
The head of state also expressed doubt that Russia seeks anything other than occupation, but stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts.<\/p>\n
